It’s not too late to get the little ones engaged in some artistic enrichment this summer at the Darien Arts Center (DAC)! The “Let’s Put On A Show” Workshop is being offered to children grades 1 through 4. Students will participate in all stages of show creation and development in a fun and kid-friendly environment. Children will create scenery and props in an art class, learn songs and dance numbers in a dance class, and learn lines in a theatre class, to culminate into a final production on the last day of the workshop. Participants will benefit from both the experience of the adult staff at the Arts Center and the facilities that the Arts Center provides. DAC Dance Director, Bonnie Gombos, will run the dance portion of the workshop, while Heather Kahlert, art teacher at the DAC will teach the visual art portion. Sessions will take place in the DAC Weatherstone Studio, which houses a black box theatre, and the Visual Arts studio, where all DAC art classes take place. The “Let’s Put on a Show” Workshop will be available in two sessions of 9 classes that meet on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Summer Session 1 will run from July 7 through July 25, and Summer Session 2 will run from July 28 through August 15. To register, call (203) 655-8683. The “Pre-school Art and Dance” Workshop is being offered to children ages 3 through 5. Pre-schoolers will learn about dance and the joy of movement and imaginative story-telling, while the visual art component will focus on the magic of mixing colors and using materials to create 2 and 3 dimensional projects. The class meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 1p.m. A snack is included and children can be enrolled in up to five sessions that run from June through August. Each session consists of 4 classes. To register, call (203) 655-8683.
